The Department of English at Sumitranandan Pant Government Degree College, Garur is one of the foundational departments of the Faculty of Arts. Since the establishment of the college in 2006, the department has been committed to promoting excellence in English language and literature while equipping students with the communication skills required in today’s global environment. The college currently offers English as a subject in the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme under Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora.
The department aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of English literature, language, and communication through an interactive and learner-centred teaching approach. Students are introduced to classical and contemporary literary works, literary criticism, linguistics, and communication skills, enabling them to appreciate literature while developing analytical thinking and effective expression.
