About Government Degree College, Garur
Government Degree College, Garur (Bageshwar) was started in the year 2006 in the natural valley of Garur under the supervision of Dr. D. C. Pant, founding Principal, Government P. G. College, Bageshwar. In 2019 the college was named after the name of Sumitranandan Pant who is a renowned romantic poet of Hindi literature. The beautiful tourist places in the surrounding of the college are Baijnath Temple, Kausani, Kotbhramari Temple, and Gwaldam that enhance the glamour of it. The college has been affiliated to Kumaon University Nainital since 2006. With the formation of Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora in 2021, it has come under S. S. J. University Almora. The college which was started with six subjects at undergraduate level in 2006 is today imparting education in nine subjects of Arts. They are Hindi, English, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science. Sociology, Sanskrit, and Home Science. The contemporary Principals of Government P. G. College, Bageshwar led the college from 2006 to 30.08.2012. The first regular principal was Dr. Prem Prakash who joined on 01.09.2012 and continued till 07.06.2017. Dr. P. C. Pandey remained the next principal of the college from 07.06.2017 to 27.06.2019. After that Prof. V. S. Sharma led the college from 01.0702019 to 08.12.2019. At present Prof. Premlata Kumari is leading the college as a principal. Sumitranandan Pant Government Degree College, Garur has its own 0.90 hectare land. It has also a rich library with e- access to more than 1500 e-books; besides 3200 text books in print as on today. The college has wi-fi facility on campus.
The college is affiliated to Soban Singh Jeena University, Uttarakhand At present the college has 9 teaching and 7 non-teaching staff. The sprawling campus of the college has three faculties namely arts and this college is recognised under UGC section 2F of NAAC. The admission in above programmes are on the basis of merit. In its long journey, the college has been consistently on the path of progress with many milestones on its way. Presently, the college building has classes, a library, and internet facility. The collage NSS & Rover Rangers units in the college are being run with full dedication and gusto.
